DC trip from forever ago

Back in March (remember the flowers?) I went down to DC.  Aside from creeping around the Mall taking pictures of flowers, I also got to spend time with family and friends!

On Thursday night, Kate and I met a bunch of friends at a sushi/karaoke bar.  We had gone there before for her birthday, so headed back.  We had met a bunch of nice guys from Georgetown last time we were there, so I invited them since I knew we would be back, and they stopped by with a whole bunch of their friends too.  A nice little reunion!  They make me feel old though...and one told me he thought I was 30 (but one of their friends said he thought I was 17 (HA!), so I suppose it evens out).

Part of the reason for the trip was to peep the cherry blossoms, and another part was to cheer Kate and her dad on while they ran the half marathon.  Kate, her mom, her boyfriend, and I got up and cheered them on as they ran by along the course, and then we headed over to the finish line area to celebrate!  There was a really yummy grilled cheese truck that was there, which was pretty tasty.

Later that night, we all went to dinner at the Pines of Florence, which was very good.  I had carbonara, but there was SO much of it.  I'm not even sure I hate half of it!  Here's Kate and her mom.

After dinner we went back to the hotel Kate's parents were staying at and had some drinks together.  It was nice to see my aunt and uncle (really cousins) and we all had a nice time just hanging around, chatting and catching up.  Isn't Kate's boyfriend cute?  He looks a lot like Brad Stevens, the super cute Butler basketball coach!

Another part of my trip was to visit Airport Chris.  I stayed at his place with him and Greg. He came out to do a little karaoke with us on Thursday, and on Friday night we stayed home and watched Transformers (!!!!!!!) and The Brothers Bloom (very good movie if you have not seen it).  We also went over to Georgetown (the neighborhood, not the school) and I got to fulfill a lifelong dream and go to Sprinkles.  I wanted to check out Georgetown Cupcakes or DC Cupcakes, whatever it is called, but the line was crazy long.  So I got some cupcakes from Sprinkles instead - they were very tasty!  He came to dinner with Kate and the rest of the fam on Saturday night.

Here's another group picture.  My uncle's friend from high school had recently moved to DC, so he joined us for dinner and drinks and group pictures as well.

All in all, it was a very good trip.  I am getting close to learning my way around, or at least the Dupont Circle area (can't really get anywhere else).  I will be going back to DC a couple more times this spring, and I can't wait!
