Cross-Country Road Trip: Atlanta with a Dog
Friday, October 04, 2013
Once we got to Atlanta, we checked into the hotel (the W in Buckhead, which I will never stay at again (more on that later)). They have a pets program so we were supposed to get all kind of goodies for Claudius - a bed, welcome snacks/treats, etc. Well they did not have a bed (they had a bed, but "another dog is using it"), so they rigged up a bunch of pillows inside a bedsheet and delivered it to our room for his makeshift bed.
It was nice and big and he sure did enjoy digging in it.
They also begrudgingly gave us the promised treats, which were clearly meant for a dog of a different gender. Claudius gave them a few sniffs but I'm not sure he ever ate these. They are pretty cute though!
A lot of time was spent lounging on his bed!
One night we got takeout from Maggiano's and the little guy decided to dive into the bag and see if there were any leftovers for him (sadly, there weren't).
Claudius was a real trooper in his first hotel stay. We were pretty worried about how he'd handle things during the day and keeping him quiet in the evenings, but he was pretty easygoing. He didn't always sleep in his bed though - he usually managed to sneak his way into the "regular" bed to snuggle up with us.
During the day Marek would take him for walks when he could (it was pretty hot in Atlanta). One day, Marek met me at the office and we walked back to the hotel together. On our trip, we happened to walk by the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, so of course we had to stop and take some pictures with our little wiener dog. I think we were a little more excited about it than Claudius was though!
I won't bore you with the rest of the details of our stay in Atlanta, which included 4 days of all-day classes and a test on Friday. We did get to meet up with a co-worker of mine for drinks really quickly one night but other than that, it was a pretty uneventful stay.
As for why we will never stay at the W in Buckhead again, the service was just really poor overall. Between having to request all of the dog perks to getting stranded at the office twice by their car service and then having to argue with them over whether I was actually left at the office and then random charges on our bill, it's just not a hotel that I would consider going back to. Not even the Bliss toiletries could sway me!
