Cross-Country Road Trip: Indianapolis

Monday, October 07, 2013

On Friday, almost a week since we had left Boston, we both headed to Indianapolis.  Marek left bright and early in the morning for the 8-hour drive through Tennessee and Kentucky.  As he was driving by himself with Claudius, there are no pictures from that part of the trip.

I stayed in Atlanta for the morning and early afternoon to take my final test for training and then flew up to Indianapolis in the afternoon.

Marek was already settled at the hotel so I took a cab downtown and passed by my favorite football stadium!  It was sad not to see Peyton Manning's picture up there anymore though. :(

For dinner that night we decided to go and check out Shula's, and Marek was wicked excited to dig into the biggest creme brulee he has ever seen.  It is his favorite dessert and he always looks for it on menus when we go out, so this basically made his day!

Claudius was becoming a pro at the hotel lifestyle.  Here he is enjoying the view from his Westin heavenly bed.  The Westin in Indianapolis was much pet-friendlier than the W had been, and we had a great time for our short stay there.

Quick selfie before bed!

So over sleeping in hotel beds!

So you may be wondering why we went through Indianpolis.  After all, the "best" way (according to Google maps) to get from Atlanta to Seattle is to head northeast and cut through Missouri, and on up through South Dakota and Montana.  It doesn't include a side trip to Indianapolis.  We had signed up to run the Mini, which we have been running for a few years now, and the Mini happened to fall during our trip, so we just took a "detour" through Indianapolis.  You will see in the next post that this was also "on the way" to one of our last stops before the long haul began.

We both ran the Mini in very hot and humid weather.  I didn't love my time (I believe it was my worst half marathon time ever), but I had slacked on training for a couple of months leading up the move, so I was just happy to be there and to have finished.  After the Mini, we took a shower, packed up our stuff, and hit the road again!
