Cousin weekend in Maine

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Have I told you about my cousins yet? No? Well, they're awesome. Marek and I spent the weekend with them up in Maine back in July. We were up there the weekend of Marek's actual birthday, and we all had a ton of fun. We drove up Friday afternoon, and just hung out and relaxed all weekend.

The first night there we played Things, which is always a fun time.

Saturday morning Marek and I went on a walk with some of the other cousins...it was sold as a short walk, but was actually pretty long. We had a nice time though - the area is beautiful! Saturday afternoon I tried to go to the beach with the girl cousins and one of my cousin's friends, but there was hardly any room, especially because the tide was coming in. We were just lying out on our towels when a big wave came up and splashed all over us, so that was the end of that. We grilled some food and then we all played wiffle ball.

On Saturday night we all went out to a local bar...Lobster something, I can't remember. There was a live band playing and plenty of people dancing. We sat around people watching for awhile, and then my cousin's friend and I decided to join the dancing people out on the dance floor. Here's some of the cousins hanging out while we were dancing.

Soon enough though, we got the cousins to join us, and I made Marek take pictures of us dancing. I love how we managed to line up in height order somehow.

Here's another picture of the four of us dancing.

At some point, we ended up playing horse shoes, which was interesting. It's a lot harder than it seems!

Here's a picture of the three girl cousins. Love these girls!

And here's us with our cousin's friend, who is also awesome.

I really have no idea what we're doing in this picture, but I think it's pretty funny. I'm not sure if we're singing, laughing, or yelling...or all three.

Here's a bigger cousin picture - this is most of the cousins who were there that weekend...the two "mom" cousins (for lack of a better word) stayed home, so weren't at the Lobster bar place with us.

I don't remember how it started, but we started trying to request that the band play "Freebird" (they were taking requests...and they didn't know Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again"!). We mad the request mainly by sitting in the back and just yelling out "FREEBIRD!" when there were breaks between songs. They never played it. :(

So after they were done playing, we just pulled it up on my cousin's cell phone and we all stood around and sang it together, very loudly. I'm telling you, we are so cool.

I'm pretty sure this is me doing air guitar.

Once we got home, we took turns pretending to ride the Vespa.

Here's Marek and I on the Vespa. We also pulled out the helmet at one point, because, you know, safety first.

This is probably one of my favorite pictures from the night. It just cracks me up!

Here's Marek with my cousin. Marek and I visited her last November when we were going to a Colts game, and we stopped by Chicago to visit her and eat at our favorite restaurant (Texas de Brazil). She then invited us to some Christmas Eve festivities, and that's how we started hanging out with all these cousins!

Marek was definitely enjoying himself, shall we say, and at one point he decided to pop his collar to be like Bobby. So he sat down on he couch, propped his feet up, and popped his collar. (If you know Marek, you know he has to be feeling pretty silly to voluntarily pop his collar!)

Then we ended up getting "iced"...well, most of us anyway. I think there were three Smirnoff Ices and one beer. I'm woefully bad at this...look how far behind I am!

Here's a picture of us afterwards. Pretty sure my bottle is still mostly full. :)

Sunday was Marek's actually birthday, and when he got up and went downstairs, they all remembered and sang happy birthday to him!! I missed it though, because I was still sleeping. :( They even sang happy birthday using his new nickname (Recchi)!

It was a super fun weekend, and I really enjoyed hanging out with my cousins. Marek now sees how fun just hanging around in Maine for a weekend can be, so I'm looking forward to going back again some time. Luckily I'm going to see most of my cousins again around Labor Day, so I'm excited about that!
