Fantasy Football 2010 recap
Monday, January 03, 2011
I don't think it's any secret that I love football. Football season is my favorite time of the year (and how awesome that it coincides with my favorite season of the year, autumn), and the months between February and August are always just a little less exciting on Sunday afternoons, Sunday nights, and Monday nights.
Another thing that I love about football season is its companion, fantasy football season! I've been playing fantasy football for over 5 years now, but for some reason I usually have a hard time finding people to play with. I reconnected with an ex-boyfriend of mine a few years ago, and he runs a league so I finally have people to play with again!
I did all right this year. I made the playoffs, but was out in the first round. I didn't realize we were playing for 5th place, so I just let my roster go. Next year, next year...
I also participated in Bill Simmons's Pigskin Pick'em game with about 23 thousand other people. Going into it, I didn't realize that it was picks based on the spread, and it took me a few weeks to figure that out, then a couple more weeks to figure out how the heck to make picks based on the spread. (I still don't understand the spread.)
I'm pretty happy with my performance (except for week 12!). I love football, but I don't watch a lot of NFL analysis (more on that another time). I generally know which teams are doing well and which teams aren't, but the spread threw a whole new wrench into this game. I was able to trend above the average entry, even with outright missing two entire weeks. I'm still kicking myself over this! I ended up around 6,000th place out of 23,500, so not too shabby!
Now fantasy football season is over and the football season is nearing its end, sad. So I have 6 months to figure out the spread...
